How to polish VALET wax wash4 car

In my time, I have in South London and Bournemouth sold many many cars and have taken tips from the professionals themselves as well as developing my own way of making virtually any car gleam.
Now, many cars out there are past their prime, why bother, its an old scrapper, people will say but I have always taken these old scrappers and as long as the top paint is pretty much undamaged, can breathe new life into the saddest of vehicles and it does reflect in the price of your sales, if it looks better than before, if it looks halfway decent, then the price is always higher as a result when you sell.
There are two ways at looking at this, when you have a newish car, people expect it to be newish inside and out and you move accordingly to that, however....
If you have an older car, then expectations change because a gleaming engine and gearbox on a 150,000 mile Sierra, many will be suspicious and expect the engine to leak like a sieve so it is best to act accordingly to that as well.
All my vehicles, bought and sold end up leaving my ownership if I am lucky with paintwork looking like wet glass and boy does that make a difference when people buy.
Lets wash the car then...
Now this may sound crazy but the first thing you can do, to help you is to take your car down the jet wash and give the wheel arches, the lower portion of the car a damned good blasting with the lance or if you have a lance attachment for your hose, get rid of the built up mud and grime in the arches, grilles, under the sills and rear underhang.

BUYING A USED MOTORCYCLE GUIDE

HI THERE I HOPE THIS GUIDE HELPS YOU
Are you one of those people who can listen to a bike's engine and declare: "The cam chain's on the way out or "One valve seat's worn". No, few of us are. It's bad enough diagnosing a problem on your own bike in your own garage, let alone in a buying situation at someone else's house, most of us would miss something minor, or much worse, something major. Short of paying over the odds by paying someone from the AA to come with you and check the bike over, you can learn a lot by studying the bike's paperwork. Any bike that's been looked after by a careful and loving owner, will have a string of paperwork with it, supporting all the work that's been done over the years, a bike is worth much more by keeping the receipts and proving that it's been cared for. Review all the paperwork before you agree to buy any bike or part with your hard earned cash. It's not a substitute for actually checking the bike over but it is the most commonly ignored source of vital information. Important documents to check are;Tax Disc - Some owners keep previous years but it's not a problem if there aren't any. Check for forgeries by taking a legal one with you, forgeries look dodgy by comparison. If there isn't one the bike hasn't been taxed for a while or the owner is a tax dodger (could say a lot about the current owner). Service History - The most ignored yet most valuable piece of information supplied with the bike. Is the mileage in sequence with the other documents (MoT, logbook etc), check the date and type of work carried out, what was included in the full service. Garage address/phone number, if in doubt give them a ring. Also check for mechanics footnotes, usually to cover their back, this will provide any previous problems they found. Bikes under warranty should have a service history from a garage, if there isn't any history can the seller be trusted to maintain a 160mph superbike, a careful owner will keep all receipts and provide them when selling the bike as it can add value. History Check - Most are re-branded versions of the HPI check and will tell you if the bike's been stolen, written off or has an outstanding finance agreement. They can also warrant the mileage, this can all be done over the phone in a few minutes (you will have to pay in the region of

Safeguarding Members ID's is not a License to Shill Bid

Safeguarding Members ID's
Let me first say that I totally agree with eBay's new Safeguarding Members' IDs policy, because it stops fake second chance offers dead!
Sellers of high value items, like myself, suffer greatly from scammers sending out fake second chance offers to underbidders. The scammers had the underbidders' IDs from the items bid history, and could see just how much that person had bid. So it was pretty easy for them to send out a fake email which looked identical to eBay's own. Too many people have fallen foul of this, and enough of them, sellers and bidders alike, have complained about it that eBay have finally taken action.
This is a controversial decision which many think gives the seller greater scope for shill bidding. This simply isn't true.
In the new style bid history, there is a link to each bidders' bid history, showing their activity not just with the current seller, but with any seller. So if a seller is using a second account to push up the price, which is what shill bidding is all about, it will show. You can see how many times the bidder has bid on this seller's items, how many other sellers' items they have bid on, and other such information which was previously hard work to compile from the various searches available in Advanced Search.
In fact, a glance you can see the whole bidding activity of the bidder, and in far more detail than previously readily available. Coupled with eBay stopping private feedback, this actually reduces the scope for dodgy sellers to push prices up by shill bidding.
It has also been said by others that shill bidding is a "lesser" crime than fake second chance offers, as people who enter their maximum bid, and stick to it, can't be pushed higher by shill bidding. Where as with fake second chance offers, people have been ripped off for hundreds and even thousand of pounds. I'm not so sure I agree with this, but I do understand the sentiments.
So, with the bidder's identity hidden from general view, is it still possible to see if a seller is shill bidding, or getting a mate to regularly bid up their auctions? The answer is basically yes:
1) Using the link provided by eBay you can see how many different items and the number of sellers the bidder has bid on. If the bidder has only ever bid on one seller's auctions, but has bid on many different items, you can draw your own conclusion.
2) If a high value item is re-listed a good number of times, I would suspect the dodgy seller has "won" their own item in their efforts to push the price higher than genuine bidders are willing to pay. Remember there are a number of legitimate reasons why a seller has to re-list an item once or twice, so this isn't a hard and fast rule.
3) Common sense. Never underestimate your gut feeling.
Finally, not all sellers of 99p no reserve auctions are dodgy sellers; some of us use it as a sales pitch to generate more interest in our items :-)

Guide to buying fibreglass body kits bodykits on ebay

Being one of the first selling a range of body styling panels on ebay a few years back. I have see this category on ebay grow from a few hundred to thousands. I have come across most of the fibreglass car panels available on ebay for your hot hatch, so I thought i would write up a little assistance for when you buy.
You can group most of the sellers and their items into a few of the following categories, so lets check them out.
One Layer Bandits
One coating of fibreglass mat. All fibreglass, general use, car panels should be made with 2 layers of 450 or equivalent. I have had many a customer bring me a cheap copy of PSG combat 2 kit to me to fit and its not been any thicker than paper. NO STRENGTH AT ALL. I can name a few companies which do this and sell them cheap on ebay, so be aware and use one of the golden rules, ask the seller if not sure about anything!!!

XENON/HID LIGHTBULBS FOR ALL UK CARS.

Now it's getting close to winter people start to realise how poor their lights are compared to the latest generation of cars. A popular upgrade is to fit xenon headlight bulbs which give a 'whiter' light. Genuine xenon bulbs will improve the light output as well as apperance of your headlamps. Please note: No bulbs that I have come across will give the same appearance as HID (high intensity discharge) lamps as fitted standard to high end cars like mercedes, bmw and audi's - this is down to the construction of the headlight itself - if you buy bulbs expecting the same effect you will be dissapointed! The bulbs will have a colour tempearture rating (xxxx K), and is a measure of the 'whiteness' of the light emitted - it has nothing to do with the operating tempearture of the bulb (ie how hot to the touch the bulb is). The lower the xxxx number is (say 3300K) the 'yellower' the light is, the higher the number (say 6000K) the 'bluer' the light will be, but the trade off is that the light output will appear to be less due to blue light being difficult to see by because our eyes are more sensitive to the yellow end of the spectrum - a 50W blue bulb will appear dimmer than a 50W yellow bulb due to our eyes sensitivity. In wet conditions the water actually absorbs a lot of the blue light so the light output will appear even lower. Note: The colour temperature of natural daylight at noon is between 5000-5500K.
So blue bulbs may look cool but if you want to see where you are going, and others to see you, avoid them like the plague! A couple of points to note are:

Escort Twin-Cam, RS and Mexico

This is one of many illustrated classic transport guides I've created for the community. I hope you enjoy it. If you wish to find out more about the classic Ford Escort art featured in this guide please click here.
This guide features six classic performance Escort models produced between 1968 and 1980.
Escort Twin-Cam

In 1967 a successor for the aging Cortina GTs and Lotus Cortinas was created by shoe-horning the Lotus-Cortina's engine, transmission and braking system into the two-door bodyshell of the new Escort. Series-production was allocated to Halewood, although the first 25 production cars were built at the Boreham competitions department workshops. The car was unveiled with the standard Escorts in January 1968.
Escort RS1600

For April 1971 the Twin-Cam was joined by the RS 1600, replacing the Twin-Cam as Ford's most exciting sports saloon and enabling the Escort to remain a front running competition car. The RS1600 featured the Cosworth BDA engine but in almost all other respects was the same as the Twin-Cam.
Escort Mexico

The Mexico was announced in November 1970 and took its name from Ford's success in 1970 London-Mexico World Cup Rally. Basically a re-engined Twin-Cam/RS 1600, the new Mexico used the mass produced 1,599cc Kent engine instead of the limited production 16-valve BDA unit, although in most other respects it was the same car. Maximum speed was just over 100mph compared to 113mph for the RS1600.
Escort RS2000

Basically the original Mk1 RS 2000 was a re-engined and refined RS 1600, featuring Ford's new overhead-camshaft Pinto unit. At 1.6 litres, the Kent engine was already at its size limit and to increase performance beyond Mexico standards, this 1,993cc engine was the ideal choice. In the RS2000 it produced 100bhp (DIN) at 5,750rpm.
Escort RS1800 (Mk2)

The RS 1800 was produced in very limited numbers between 1975 and 1977. Fitted with an enlarged version of the 16-valve BDA engine, cubic capacity was now 1,835cc and power output had risen to approximately 115bhp. The RS 1800 model was used with great success by the works rally team and numerous private owners.
Escort RS2000 (mk2)

With its new droopsnoot nose, the new RS 2000 created a stir at the 1975 Geneva Motor Show. Like all previous RS Escorts, it was based on the two-door saloon body style and featured extensive used of matt black paint in place of conventional bright metal. Clearly aimed at the sporting buyer who wanted refinement and performance, the model was a success, gaining higher demand than earlier cars.

Buying Parts and Spares for your GSXR

Just a little bit of advice on the subject of buying spares for your GSXR. This concerns bikes made between 2000 and 2008.
I see many descriptions that state the part description and say GSXR 1000 K1 K2. There are a large number of parts that are compatible between different models and different years and some sell for loads of money whilst the same part for an older or younger or smaller bike can sell for half. The opposite is also true. Some people advertise with incompatible bikes against a part ie. GSXR1000 K1 Air box, may fit 600

Ex lease vehicles. Serviced well, or not?

I learnt a bitter lesson this week having just bought an ex lease Renault Kangoo, a couple of weeks ago.
I checked the cam belt and it looked almost new. Thinking that as an ex lease vehicle, it had been serviced correctly, I didn't bother to change the belt. What I didn't know was that the belt had been changed, but not the tensioners or idlers. That is why I came home on the back of a recovery truck and why I'm just about to pay out for a head rebuild and a set of idlers, plus various other parts destroyed when an idler collapsed at 40 MPH.
Talking to people after the event revealed that leasing companies often play 'the numbers game'. If they have a number of vehicles they find it more economical to have the occasional failure than to change everything they should do on all vehicles.

205 gti history /information

The Peugeot 205 was a supermini automobile produced by the French manufacturer Peugeot between 1983 and 1998.
History
Widely regarded as a modern classic, the 205 is often credited as the car which turned Peugeot's fortunes around. Before the 205, Peugeot was considered the most conservative of France's "big three" car manufacturers, producing worthy but dull large sedans such as the 504 and 505. The genesis of the 205 lay within Peugeot's takeover in 1978 of Simca, which had the necessary expertise in making small cars. Early 205s used the "Douvrin" engine from the older Peugeot 104, although these were later replaced with the newer XU and TU-series engines, which were of PSA design. Engines ranged from 954 cc to 1905 cc engine displacement, in carburetor or fuel injected petrol and Diesel versions.
The 205 was an instant hit, and the styling parameters that it set were echoed in every Peugeot model that was to follow. Incredibly, the styling was never face lifted or altered once in its 15-year production run, apart from a dashboard redesign for model year 1987 and a face lift in late 1990 gave the 205 new door design and cards, clear front indicators new rear lights SPI and Catalytic converters introduced.
205 production was gradually slowed down following the introduction of the joint replacement models, the 106, and 306, and eventually stopped in 1998, but amid pressure from the market, the company finally built a direct replacement in the 206, which was launched in 1998. Over 5,278,000 Peugeot 205s have been produced.
High performance variants
205 GTi
The GTi versions came in either 1.6 or 1.9 litre configuration, and are considered to be among the most popular hot hatches of the era. Compared to modern cars they are difficult to handle but offer a very rewarding driving experience when mastered. The 1.6 GTi came with a XU5J engine, producing 105 bhp DIN (77 kW), for the 1987 model year the XU5J received the cylinder head with larger valves from the 1.9 GTi's XU9JA engine thus becoming XU5JA. The new engine was quoted for 115 bhp (85 kW). The 1.9 GTi came with a XU9JA engine producing 130 bhp DIN (96 kW), although later models with a catalytic converter produced 122 bhp DIN (89 kW). Internally these engines are very similar, the main differences on 1.9 litre versions being the longer stroke, oil cooler, and some parts of the fuel injection system. The shorter stroke 1.6 litre engine is famed for being revvy and eager, while the 1.9 litre feels lazier and torquier. Outside the engine bay the main differences between the 1.6 GTi and the 1.9 GTi are half leather seats (1.9GTi) vs. cloth seats (1.6 GTi); and disc brakes all round (1.9 GTi) vs. discs at the front and drum brakes at the back (1.6 GTi); as well as the 14 inch alloy wheels (1.6 GTi) vs. 15 inch alloys (1.9 GTi).
The 205 took the crown away from Volkswagen for the king of GTis, and is still mentioned to this day in group car tests of the newest GTI models or equivalent. Peugeot itself has never truly recreated this success in future GTi models. A cabrio version, known as the CJ (or CT in France), was designed and partially assembled by Pininfarina of Italy. A CTi version, with the same plastic arches, engine and wheels as the 1.6 GTi was also available. The main aesthetic difference between the GTi/CTi versions and other 205 models were the plastic wheel arches and trim, beefier front and rear bumper valances. The shell also underwent some minor changes, including larger wheel arches (to suit the larger wheels on the GTi and CTi), and the suspension was redesigned and sat lower on the GTi.
Sales of the GTi in the early 1990s were badly hit by soaring insurance premiums, brought about by high theft and 'joyriding' of cars of this sort. Increasingly stringent emissions regulations meant the 1.6GTi went out of production in 1992, while the 1.9 was sold for a couple more years thanks to re-engineering of the engine to enable it to work properly with a catalytic converter.
205 Rallye
From 1988 to 1992 Peugeot produced another variant of the 205, the 205 Rallye, which was engineered and produced by Peugeot-Talbot sport. This edition of the 205 was positioned as a cost effective alternative to the 205 GTI, retaining its sporty character, but being less expensive to buy or maintain.
To achieve this, Peugeot used a derivative of the TU-series engine used in the post-1987 205's, which was designated TU2.4. The engine is essentially the same engine as was in the 1.1 litre 205 with the cylinders drilled out to a total engine displacement of 1294cc, a sports camshaft and twin Weber carburetors. While only a 1.3 litre engine, it still produced 103 bhp DIN (76 kW) at no less than 6800 rpm. The car got the 1.9 GTI front suspension with ventilated brake discs, and the 1.6 GTI rear axle with drum brakes.
The 205 Rallye was completely stripped of almost all soundproofing, electrical systems or other luxury items, bringing down the weight to no more than 794 kg. Its minimalist equipment, together with the high revs needed to unleash all of the engine's horsepower gives the 205 Rallye a very Spartan character and makes it a difficult but rewarding car to drive hard, which is one of the reasons it is now very popular among 205 GTI enthusiasts. Around 30,000 Rallyes were produced, and they were only sold in some countries on the European mainland (at least in France, Belgium and The Netherlands). This, together with the fact that a lot of these cars have been wrecked because it is a difficult (and for some drivers even dangerous) car to drive makes the 205 Rallye a very rare car nowadays. It is almost impossible to buy one in good shape anymore because Rallye owners now tend to hold on to their cars, knowing it will be a classic in the not too distant future.
The distinctive aesthetic features of the 205 Rallye are that they are all white, have white plastic wheel arches which are only found on this model, the steel white rims and the rainbow colored Peugeot-Talbot sport decals on the front grille and the tailgate. The Rallye was sold with a reduced-weight interior with the Peugeot-Talbot sport logo embroidered in the front chairs.
From 1990 to 1992 Peugeot also built a 1.9 litre version of the 205 Rallye. Only about 1000 of them were produced and they were only sold in Germany, because the 1.3 version did not meet German road regulations. The 1.9 Rallye is just a 105 bhp 1.9 GTI with the Rallye body shell and the new-style clear indicators and rear light units. Although they are even rarer than the 1.3 Rallye, they are less popular among Peugeot enthusiasts, because they lack the raw and Spartan character of the 1.3 Rallye and are 150 kg heavier.
After the 205 Rallye, Peugeot again used the 'Rallye' designation for some of its 106 and 306 models. Peugeot also released a Rallye version of the 205 in Great-Britain, and used a 75bhp TU3.2 engine.
205 T16
To homologate the 205 T16 Group B rally car, Peugeot had to produce 200 road-going examples. A photograph showing the 200 cars was famously rumored to be a fake. The road variants shared the transverse mid-engine, four-wheel drive layout of the rally car, but had much less power, at around 200 PS (147 kW). The T was for Turbo; the 16 for the 16 valves that the 4-cylinder 1.8 L engine had.
Outwardly similar to a normal 205, the T16 had wider wheel arches, and the whole rear section lifted up to give access to the engine. Underneath, the complex drive train from the rally car was kept to abide by the Group B rules. All 200 built were left-hand drive, so few reached the United Kingdom, where only 4 are known to exist. Unlike Group B rivals Ford Motor Company (with the RS200) and Lancia, Peugeot's road-based cars were never raced.
Other Variants
Peugeot produced some limited edition 205 GTI models over the car's life.In 1990, 600 GTi's were made in the then new colors of Miami blue and Sorrento Green (a very dark metallic green). This model featured full grey leather interior and power steering. The cars were made in an equal mix of 150 blue 1.6, 150 green 1.6, 150 blue 1.9 and 150 green 1.9.
The Griffe was a limited edition for mainland Europe, and was sold in France, Germany and the Netherlands. It was bright green ('Laser' Green), and had grey carpet, dark grey anodized alloy wheels with a silver rim, and full black leather interior. Approximately 3,000 Griffes were made, and though never officially sold here, two to three are believed to have made it to the UK.
The 1FM was produced in 1992 to coincided with the 25th birthday of Radio 1. Only 25 were made, and each car was individually numbered with a small brass plate. Every one was black and had dark grey anodized alloy wheels with a silver rim. The car had every extra as standard including ABS, air conditioning, catalytic converter, full black leather interior, PAS and immobilizer. A special stereo system including a CD changer and an acoustic rear shelf was designed by Clarion especially for this car. The car had unique 'Radio 1' badging, and Radio 1 ran a competition on air to win one. When new the car cost over

So, begrudgingly at may age ( Only just 40 ) decided that the time had come to get a people carier.
Looking at the cars available there are only two that provide the flexibility and practicality needed. The Grand Voyager and the Toyota Previa. As most of the Previas seem to be called Lucida or Emina and have come from some Tsunami hit area of the Eastern World so this left me with the Voyager.
Exhaustive searching on E-Bay found me a 1998 rand Voyager 3.3V6. Now at this point let me mention ful economy. A colleage at work had the latest GV with a 2.8CRD engine. Much to his annoyance, I get more to the gallon than he does from my V6 petrol. And the fuel is cheaper !
Now the reason for this guide. WHAT A CAR !! I never thought I would wax lyrical about a people carrier but this thing is superb. For

Looking for Vehicle Transportation? A Few Tips......

So you have bought a vehicle on eBay...
With eBay, buying the car you have always wanted has never been easier. It could be a stunningly restored classic, a high performance exotic or just the car you learned to drive in all those years ago and in need of just a little TLC. Whatever it is and for whatever reason you want it we now have the opportunity to look at and buy a car from anywhere in the country "on-line". Whilst the perils and pitfalls of buying any car are already well known and documented elsewhere it is the issue of getting it home which can also be a minefield....
Understanding the rules and regulations regarding the transportation of vehicles can be difficult and whilst there are many good vehicle transportation operators out there, sadly as is life there are a number who are not. Spotting the difference will no doubt bring great peace of mind to you as you eagerly await the delivery of your new (!) vehicle and hopefully this simple guide will help you decide who to trust, because if you get it wrong the simple fact is that you just might not get your vehicle at all....
First, contact and approach... some simple questions to ask at the outset...
Do you have a land line telephone number ?Do you only have a "Hotmail" or similar annonymous E-mail address ?Are you happy to disclose a correspondence address ?Are you happy to accept payment by cheque or PayPal ?Will I receive an invoice ?Do you have a website with examples of your work ?Is the transportation of vehicles the only line of business for your company ?How long have you been transporting vehicles ?
If you are satisfied so far, good. That was the easy bit....
Second, how your vehicle is to be transported.... the technical stuff to ask and the facts....
Is my vehicle insured in your care ? And to what value and level of cover ?Are you insured to drive my vehicle to and from your transporter ?
Adequate cover is often neglected by operators as it can cost many thousands of pounds per year. Just because their vehicle is insured does not mean that yours will be. Dont be afraid to ask for documentary proof of cover, both for "Road Risks" and customer vehicle "Custody and Control" or "Goods In Transit" as it may be described.
Are your vehicles correctly licenced to "transport" my vehicle ?
All vehicles that are used for the conveyance of goods for money that have a Gross Vehicle Weight ( GVW ) of

Toyota Estima, Lucida and Emina Japanese imports

Having now owned 2 of these Japanese imported cars and carried out various repairs during those ownerships, I felt I should try and pass on some tips and advice on owning these highly practical cars. The range of Estimas, Lucidas and Eminas are all very similar. The difference being in the level of interior equipment, whether it is 2 or 4 wheel drive and manual or automatic. All the cars share the same bodyshell. This is based on the more common Previa. The Previa is what is commonly know an the 'wide' body and the Estimas etc as the 'narrow' body. This difference came about because of the taxation laws in Japan. When searching through ebay for a good old reliable car when you are on a limited budget the trusty old Volvo is a car that often gets overlooked.
The reasons for this are that some people think they are a big juicy gas guzzler when this simply isnt the case. They cost the same or less in some cases to run that the average family hatchback.
These cars are known world wide for their practicality

Buying trailers safely.

Each year in the UK, thousands of trailers are stolen. Many are stolen 'to order' but its a safe bet that some end up for sale on ebay.
You are always careful when buying a car and the same care should be taken when buying a trailer. This guide gives a few tips on buying a trailer safely.
Beware of sellers with no/poor feedback scores, who have recently changed their usernames, or are secretive of their location.
Before you place any bids, ALWAYS contact the seller and view the trailer. If the seller is reluctant, or arranges to meet you at a location that is not their home or business premises, are they hiding something?
Ask the seller what they have been using the trailer for and why they have now decided to sell? Genuine sellers will give a plausible reason.
Most trailers have a data plate (unless they are homemade) giving seriel number, weight etc. If this plate is missing, damaged, defaced, WALK AWAY. nb be very careful when buying homemade trailers, they may well not meet current safety regs', you dont want to be stopped on the way home and have your new trailer impounded and a big fine! Also, if you have got your driving licence within the last ten years, check the weight as there are limits to what you can tow without taking a seperate test, (roughly the rules are that the trailer and load must be lighter than the tow-vehicle and the whole rig must be under 3500 kgs but CHECK THE VOSA WEBSITE!!
Most trailers have a lock consisting of a barrel through the handle to prevent the coupling being opened, if this is missing, has it been genuinely lost or has it been drilled out?

Yamaha YZF R6 99-03 Carb models

Realeased in early 99 as the R1's little brother the R6 took the 600 class by storm almost the same as the R1 did a year earlier.
By 2002 it was still unchanged save for LED rear lights and slightly less weight. The competition fought back with a sport model CBR, the K1 GSXR and kawasaki added an extra 36 cubes to their aged ZX6R. Although each bike during the course of that year was hailed by the press as an R6 beater the history books show that the R6 remained king until the following year when Kawasaki released an all new ZX636. (see PB december 2005).
A good fast 99 model R6 will beat any sports bikes from the same era in almost every respect including the legendary fireblade.

shrinking heatshrink

Heatshrink is a very versatile tubing that has over a thousand and one uses.
There is a variety of ways to shrink heatshrink tubing and the most popular and best way is to use a hot air gun (paint stripping gun) a gas blow torch can also be used but be carful not to burn the tubing.
The side of a soldering iron is aslo used a lot, ideal for small lengths but time consuming for long lengths.
If you dont have any of the above here are some other great ways of shrinking the tubing - the hob ring of a electric/gas cooker will do the job as well as the steam from a boiling kettle (another person will have to keep the on/off button pressed all the time) or even the steam from a wall paper stripper or one of them cleaning steamers.
Laying the tubing in hot water a little below boiling point does a good job too.

LIA IMPORTS JINLUN 125-11 CRUISER

I have bought a jinlun 125-11 and i thought i'd let you know of my experience,
i purchased the jinlun 125-11 from Lia Imports through ebay about 3 months ago
it has been a very pleasurable experience as lia imports were very helpful they talked me through everything from registering the bike to putting on the panniers and crashbars when it arrived at my door,
but the best thing about this bike is the quality, it has lots of chrome, windshield, big crashbars and awesome panniers and they are all quality items and included in the price of the bike!
I couldnt believe the amzing looks and stunning finish on the bike the paintwork is immaculate the chrome is quality my bike came fitted as standard with crashbars, windshield ,panniers, fuelguage sensors and also it has a brilliant device fitted to the bike that stops you pulling away if the stand is left down by accident wow!
but what i like most about the bike is that it looks huge i'm 5'11 and nearly fourty years old and have been riding bikes a long time and it truly impressed me ,
the attention you get when your out on this bike is amazing if i park up in town when i get back theres normally 3/4 people asking me questions about the bike and when i tell them i only paid 949 quid for it they really wont believe me, i took the bike to paignton bike festival and parked it up alongside harleys and hondas and it held its own its much bigger than all the other 125 cruiser style bikes out there at the moment and is also faster than them all, now my engine is run in i can cruise along at 65 all day and if i push it i'll get about 78mph tops this bike has altered my social life as i've now become a member of the jinlun owners club and we are in our first month and the club already has around 600 members we are busy arranging meets etc ride outs
if you want a bike that looks big ,looks cool ,and can perform ,and is a quality machine look no further the jinlun 125 11

Kerbsidemotors early Mini alternator fitting guide

Converting from negative to positive earth and fitting an alternator.
The following procedure is the way to carry out this conversion on a Mini. The procedure will be pretty much the same for all late 1960s and early 1970s British cars (I.E. Ford, MG, Morris Austin, Rootes)
Fitting an alternator will make the car more reliable as the AC current from the alternator is more stable than the DC from a dynamo. This conversion also makes the sometimes unreliable control box redundant.
Converting the car to negative earth will allow you to connect modern stereos, electronic ignition, modern fuel pumps etc. Also because of the way the electrons flow the car will not rust as fast!
Another point to consider is while fitting an alternator increases the reliability it removes some of the originality. This could affect the price of the car.
What you need:
An alternator. Lucas 16ACR (Or similar recon) is probably the most suitable. 18ACR and 20ACR will fit too but because they generate higher current they may cook the wiring!
Alternator terminals. Supplied with genuine new Lucas alternators (

boat OUTBOARD MOTOR MAINTAINANCE checks

Outboard Motor Care

It's easy to keep your outboard in tip-top shape, even if you're not a mechanic. A little TLC and preventive boat motor maintenance facilitates safe boating and can keep your motor running well and reliable for years to come.
After Every Trip
After every outing, flush out the engine. This doesn't just apply to salt water adventures, but to fresh water outings as well.
Buy a set of "flush muffs": two flexible rubber seals connected with a metal clamp. Slip the apparatus onto the lower unit where the water is picked up and attach a garden hose.
Start up the engine and let the water pump do the rest. (Practice safe boating and remember to stay clear of the prop and make sure no one tries to shift the motor into gear.)
While you're flushing the motor, check the water pump to make sure it has good water flow. Carefully put your finger through the stream of water. It may be warm, but it shouldn't be hot. If the output is not strong, you may have some debris stuck in the outflow tube. Immediately shut down the engine to prevent overheating and damage.
Insert a small piece of wire into the flow tube and work it back and forth. Start the engine again and check the output. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need a new water pump.
After flushing the engine, disconnect the fuel line and allow the engine to burn all the fuel in the carburetor.
Once you've finished the flushing and run the engine out of fuel, be sure to turn off the key and, if you have a battery switch, turn it off.
Take the engine cowling off and check for fuel or water leaks. If you find leaks, consult your safe boating mechanic.
Wipe everything down and spray with an anti-corrosive like WD 40 or Quick-lube. Be sure to lubricate all the moving parts such as the shift and throttle cables, carburetor valves, etc.
Replace the cowling and wipe it down. Keep a canvas or plastic cover on the engine between trips.
Always use fresh fuel. At the end of the season, boat motor maintenance should include draining your tanks.
Regular Maintenance
Periodically check the fuel line for cracks and worn spots.
Make sure the fuel primer bulb is not cracked and is pliable.
Make sure the fuel-line fittings seat properly and don't leak.
Check the clamps on the fuel line for rust or corrosion.
Check the fuel tanks for damage and corrosion.
Check the tank vent to make sure it aspirates properly.
Check regularly for water in the fuel.

Ford cortina mk3/4/5

These cars are starting to see a real surge in popularity today as 30-something people start to re-visit their youth, and in the case of the mk3 thanks in part to its featuring in "life on mars".
These cars were reknowned in their day as a reliable everyday family car, but in the interim years any that have survived this long may well have been through a period as a cheap banger-for many years they were worth practically nothing as newer more aeodynamic machines took their place. so careful inspection of any prospective purchase is a must. Do not believe everything the seller tells you. Over the years I have owned one of every UK model variant and have experienced most of the common faults and problems with these cars.
Firstly, a brief potted history of what was available. The mk3 was a totally new model in 1970, and used at first the 1300 and 1600 OHV "kent" crossflow engines in lower spec models- Base, L and XL models.

EX POLICE CARS ON EBAY

I would like to give a more balanced view on buying ex police cars on Ebay.
i myself bought one two years ago and have been absolutely delighted with it. some guides are slating buying ex police cars, well i for one would buy again and again, in the two years i've had my Volvo S60 T5 it has never failed me... the only fault was the alternator went, which i replaced and has been consistenly reliable and economical ever since. i have the knowledge that it has been fully serviced - i can appreciate that the daily checks that are supposed to be carried out by the police drivers never happen, but how many times do you check your car before driving?... i can assure you that no service has been missed, that the cam belts have been changed etc.
yes there are things to consider when buying an ex police car, there may be holes in the dash or roof, but to get these repaired is peanuts compared to the saving on similar cars.
yes the cars may have been driven hard, but then how many cars have pootled at around at 40mph

Fake Chinese sellers.

The above title is a common one which im sure many of you have seen in and arouns Ebay auctions, more often than not on the higher value items such as Sat navs and lapto pcomputers / equipment.
If you have not seen these the do a search for the above items and they will be littered amongst the auctions. They are easy to spot as the seller 99% of the time will have a feedback score of 10 ( 100% of course) and when you try to see what they have sold or bought then it will be an un-translatable low cost item with inevitably no picture evidence as to what it was.The presons leaving the feedback ( if not already banned) will also have a feedback of ten ( what are the chances of getting 10 feedback from 10 buyers all with 10 feedback each!!!). Either way they are fake and obvioulsly setup to fool the less observant amongst us.
I have reported so many of these sellers now and they have all been banned. I actively send emails to persons bidding on the items that i can see are falling for it aswell, just to warn them of course and not because i want the item.
please be advised you will never recieve the item you are bidding on so dont bid!!!!
Do you really think that you would be able to score a 400 quid sat nav unit for 50 odd quid even with 60 euro's postage ???Come on Ebay prices are good but really not that good. There needs to be something done to stop these people before they clog up Ebay so much it becomes impossible and the website team all go off with stress related illnesses!!!
Happy and safe bidding to all.

Buying a high mileage, ex-lease car

There are a lot of ex-lease cars on eBay that are 3 years old, have 1 previous owner, full service history and are in nice condition. This type of car will be heavily discounted due to high mileage but you can get some genuine bargains. Especially if you are not going to clock up the miles over the next few years. This guide can help you get that car for the right price and make sure you don't leave with a sour taste in the mouth. Remember that when you buy anything on eBay you agree to a contract and MUST commit to the purchase. This is especially important when you're talking about spending 1000's of pounds on something you havn't even seen or even driven yet! Some of this may be stating the obvious for more experienced car buyers but I wanted to cover everything on one page.1. Make sure everything is as described in the advert, inside and out. If anything does not match you can effectively walk away from the deal because the item is not as described. If you still want to go ahead with the deal, try to get money off for additional marks or damage.2. Make sure you get everything that was included in the description and any pictures. This includes mats, in-car phone kits (including the phone) UNLESS it is specified on the ad that the item is NOT included. Traders that sell a lot of cars will hoard stuff like mats in order to save them money when buying a bare car at auction.3. If the ad does not mention keys you can assume you will only get one. Take this into consideration as a replacement key can be expensive, especially for a modern car (e.g. VW / Audi, the key can cost

Buyer BEWARE OF Porschecarspares SELLER ON EBAY

I was recently unfortunate enough to trade with the above seller on eBay. He advertised a Smart car Passion coupe for sale describing it as being in excellent condition. Two days later it broke down and needed an engine overhaul. He trades from Altricham, Manchester and sells cars and car memorabilia. He even advertises himself as breaking down smart cars for sale!On finding out the car had a problem, I immediately got in touch with him and let him know that I would appreciate him collecting his broken down 03 reg smart and being the unscrupulous seller he is he accused me of spoiling it and wanting to scam him. He then said there was no way I would get my money back.PayPal were of no use at all but eBay have been fantastic and even said they would help if it gets to court which it has. The scammer has changed his post box address so that the courts could not get a hold of him, but the court has ruled in my favour.I would not wish anyone to go through this as he is spoiling eBay's reputation. It is sellers like these we must expose.I hope this guide has been useful, my advise always check a car before parting with your money as there are some scammers out there.

ZZR600 - guide to buying a great bike

The ZZR600 is an extremely underrated bike. I have had one for about two and half years now after upgrading from a GPZ600R which had served me well. For the price you get such a lot of bike for your money.
Most articles on the ZZR600 will dismiss it as too old to party and far behind todays tackle - it hasn't changed much since 1991 apart from a mid nineties facelift from the D model to the E - also know as ZX600D or ZX600E. Its true that if you want a track focused bike or something just to go mental on Sunday with, you'd be better looking at something more modern. However, if you want a bike you can use every day of the week, commute on and do track days and Sunday blasts on the ZZR is a good choice.
Its a very comfortable bike and is such a nice place to be I have regurlarly done 600 miles days on it touring. Racking up the miles increases the confidence and lean angles, and you'd be amazed the amount of R1s and Fireblades I overtake on the twisties, as the riders just havn't been out on their bikes as much and don't dare push as hard.
As its been around for so long its really cheap to run, most parts are available on ebay all the time, though regulars like oil filters, cables etc I've often found cheaper at the Kawaski dealers than what people are bidding for second hand ones - so its worth checking.
Reliability is brilliant. I've done over 35000 miles in two and a bit years now and the only thing thats gone wrong was a snapped clutch cable. Even with the broken clutch cable I managed to bang it into gear and clutchless change 200 miles home - it'll start in 1st gear and ride off with no clutch on level ground - amazing!
Obviously if you buying one of these check the usual things like blue exhaust smoke, water in the sump, overheating, and make sure things like head bearings and wheel bearings are sound. Exhaust down pipes will eventually rot through if you use it in winter - nothing else seems to corrode though. I'd recommend picking up a bargain stainless steel downpipes off ebay if you see one, as eventually you'll need it. My originial pipes rusted through after the second winter, when the bike was 6 year old, but the new stainless system off ebay will last forever I reckon

BMW 1150GS and GSA Differences and issues.

These are really two different bikes which share many of the same components. The main and most obvious same bits being the engine and the instruments and panel.
The GSA is known as the adventure and was introduced in 2002. The GS was first introduced in 1999.

The things that are different are the wheels, the screen, the tank, the seat, the suspension, the rack(rear of bike), the luggage that will fit and some minor cosmetic panels. The gearbox is often different as well but not always.

The wheels are generally interchangeable and it is largely cosmetic (coloured rims on the later GSA)

The screen on the GS is adjustable easily and can be tilted up and down. The GSA is not adjustable. People spend vast fortunes on trying to get the screens correct for them. There is no one answer. For some people the original screen is fine for others they buy after market screens and muck around endlessly attempting to eliminate buffeting. Helmet shape body height riding position all seem to be factors but what is perfect for one identical twin will not be for another. Try a bike before bidding

The most obvious difference between a GS and GSA is the tank size. The GSA is a lot larger. (33 litres against 22 litres I think). In either case it is a lot of weight to be sloshing around. If you are planning to tour areas where it is 400 miles between petrol stations then go for the GSA. If you are not then unless you are set on an adventure GSA because of the looks then do not worry too much. If you are riding with other bikes they will want to stop and fill up long before a GSA tank is empty but you will have to stop as well - which brings me on to the best piece of advice about a GSA tank is that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FILL IT RIGHT UP. It is also hard to fill the tanks right up unless you drill small holes in the interior neck of the filler to let the air out of the top of the tank simply because of the design. I do not advise doing this unless you have seen what someone else has done

The seat on the GSA is one piece and the GS two pieces. The can be adjusted for height (a little) but BMW and many after market companies supply lower or even higher seats.
The seats are not interchangeable between the two models

GSA luggage will not generally fit a GS and vice versa- the correct racks need to be bought. It is the racks that are the important bits. Metal luggage is often important to that "round the world" image. There are many different sorts and they nearly all cost several hundred pounds. They are worth having on any bike though people do find that they make filtering a little bit harder but after a few minutes you almost forget that they are there. The luggage is often sold separately as it adds little to the value of a bike. Luggage, be it BM's extremely good touring cases(black bulbous plastic) or after market cases fetch good prices on ebay as the are wanted by many people who already own GS's

The gearbox on the 1150 has 6 gears. There are two sorts of gear boxes the most common one is identifiable by the fact that sixth gear is indicated on the gear indicator as an "E" not "6". E is for economy. The 6th gear is slight more relaxed if it is an E box but it is only a few hundred revs difference. The first gear though in the Adventure box (for it most frequently fitted to the GSA) is much lower and useful if you ever want to take the bike off road - though you may have to be a bit of an off road god to get any real use from it.

The suspension on the GSA is higher than the standard GS and if you swapped then you would get a higher ride height. The suspension on the GS and the GSA is quite good but does wear out slowly. Experts, unlike me, reckon it is worn out by 30000 miles. You can get it rebuilt for less than

Mitsubishi fault code reading

How to read and clear the fault codes on your Mitsubishi by Kerbsidemotors!Considering how complex some of their cars are, reading the fault codes on their cars is pretty easy! This method will work on all UK cars made before 1999. That includes Lancer Evolutions, Petrol Shoguns and L200s, Colts and Galants. It will probably work on imports too but I can't remember trying it! After 1999 Mitsubishi had to switch to the EOBD system to conform to European emmissions rules that have still not been put in place. Anyway, to the garage!Turn the ignition off.Earth out terminal 1 on the Data link connector. On Galants, Evos and stuff it is under the dash on the drivers side. A simple wire with a crocodile clip will do. Turn the ignition on. You don't need to start it up. Just until the lights come on.The Management light will start to flash. If there are no codes stored it will flash constantly. If there is a code stored, the light will flash irregularly, fast and slow. A long flash indicates 10 and a quick flash indicates one. So for example if the fault code 36 was stored the light would flash 3 long flashes then flash quickly 6 times. See, easy isn't it? If you do make an ars..make a mistake turn the ignition off. Disconnect the wire. Reconnect the wire and turn the ignition on again.Compare the fault code with the table below then fix as necessary. Remember, just because the code tells you the faulty component it doesn't mean the component is faulty. Check the connections at the component, check the wiring leading to it, battery terminals etc.

CLCARS SMARTALFA AUTOLUSSO BEWARE

This is just a short intro into what may become something of an online diary of the problems I have had with this seller.
A bit of background, I bought a mercedes 320cdi estate 'V' reg from the seller CLCARS, that is their ebay name, their business is called 'SmartAlfa' or 'AutoLusso' or 'Beacon Automotive Ltd'.
The car was described fully and their feedback was good so I trusted it and bid for and won the car unseen.
When I went to collect the car a few minor problems (broken foglight, rust on a door, etc) were noted and a minor financial reduction was made in the price to compensate.
As the car has a full service history, according to the listing, and the computer in the car said it was due a 'B' Service I took it straight to a Merc Dealer for the service, and about 1 hour later I got a call from them asking me when I had crashed the car!!!!!!!
They detailed that the car has a damage to the

BUYING A GOPED! avoid cheap chinese stuff!!!

hi there, if your thinking about buying a go-ped (stand on scooter). take the time to research what your buying. there are many fakes of go-peds, made in china and often sold as the real thing!
The most common of these offenders is the CHROME G-SCOOTER. take a good hard look at one
The overall construction is very poor, the frame is welded up crap and they break easily, the bars are week at the holding joint, the throttle cables snap with ease, brakes sieze up after light use, suspention on the front tends to fall to one side. engines perform stupidly for their displacement and are of a poor design, copys of a mitsubishi bushcutter motor...
there are many other faults, also the list goes on... viper f50, big boss, razorfish etc, theyre all made in china and will fall apart.
the proper go-ped brand is an american made product, theyve been going for more than 20 years. the thing that puts a lot of people off is the pricing of go-peds (they start at

A brief guide to Isuzu Troopers

Hi There, Recoverytim here. I run a small firm in Dorset called T.T.Transport. We specialise in Recovery and Vehicle Logistics.
For those of you looking to buy an Isuzu or Parts, this may help you:
MK1 Isuzus. These are the first, box-shaped Isuzus with square headlights, and commonly 2.8 diesel engine. Made from 1988 to early 1992. (F reg to H reg). You occasionally get a J plate which is a late registered vehicle manuafactured in early 1992 but not registered until the latter part of the year. Old but reliable, although they all seem to be rusting around now, especially the front x-members, wheel arches and behind the sills.
MK2 Isuzus. Made from 1992 to 1996, and these are the curvier shape with square headlamps, but are much more luxurious and nicer to look at. They come in 3.1TD engines and 3.2i V6 petrol ( which drink it majorly! ) The one thing to look out for is the crank pulley on the bottom of the engine, as this has to be removed for a timing belt change, and sometimes the bolt is either partly sheared in the crank or has been cross-threaded. The drivers window switches are beginning to become a rare part in our breakers shed as they are the ones which are used most frequently, and the contacts eventually give up.
MK2 FACELIFT. Similar in most respects to the MK2 but the interior is more modern and the controls are different. Instead of having the lights/wipers/hazards/dim contols on the dash the lights and wipers are on column sticks. The gearboxes are the newer style which are now fitted to MK3 troopers, but the exterior of the vehicle is exactly the same, apart from the grille, which is usually chromed or outlined, where as standard MK2 grilles are colour coded or just black. In 2005 there was a recall for the Ceramic Heater which Isuzu claim had a "long term safety implication" for ALL 3.1TD engines.
MK3 Isuzus. The "New" style Isuzu with a bull nosed bonnet and "angry" looking headlamps, as well as having a different shaped front bumper and extended plastic wheelarches. The rear number plate is now in the centre of the rear bumper instead of on the smaller of the 2 back doors, as per the MK2/MK2 FACELIFT. The new improved engine is the 3.0TD DOHC Common Rail. Very reliable and fantastic on performance, but make sure that it has had the Turbo Recall (around 2000) and an Injector and Injector seat recall (2004 ish). It is advisable to use a low oil such as 5w30 instead of standard 10w40 as it will make stating easier in the winter. (the common rail has to fill with oil before the engine will start, and 5w30 is thinner when cold!). These are still also available in 3.2i V6, but again drink the jungle juice!
And just to clarify..... UK spec vehicles are Troopers, and Imported vehicles from Japan etc are Bighorns. The main differences are that Bighorns have three main 'Models' but are essentially the same spec, but Troopers only have Duty or Citation. The Duty being the lower end model without twin heated seats, Air con etc, and Citation being top of the range.
I hope this has been a helpful brief guide, and if anyone has any technical questions or would like to ask a general question about Isuzus, I will be happy to try and help. See my ME page for details.

Accident Damaged Cars

I am writing this as i have seen a vast increase in my e-mails about cars being pulled, half repaired, not what was mentioned. So i will give you this simple guide.
Beware. Some of the dealers pull the dents out, repair windscreens, valet them to make them look better than they did. They then want to charge you more than what they got it for at auction. I strongly advise people to go and have a good look around the car before you buy it. Cars can be jigged and you wouldnt know it had been. If the car has had a frontal and the windscreen was broken it was hit hard. You replace the glass, pull it here and there, dispose of some bits then it dont look too bad.
BUY 2 REPAIR.com or AML is a good example. Take a look and see how good they look after an accident... Bear in mind that the car has hit something first (Think about it).
Then goto UNIVERSAL SALVAGE.co.uk and see what cars are like before they get sold....This company deals with most of the leading insurance companies.
