OT - Going to Canada & need advise

Does anyone know the current requirements for driving from US to Canada? ... please don't say "a car" LOL

I'm trying to find out if a passport is required to cross the border in/out of Canada.

We wanted to visit Niagara Falls and see it from both sides.

Is there a special non-passport rule for visiting the Canadian side Niagara Falls?

Hi, you do not need a passport until next year. Right now 2 pieces of ID- government issue for one (drivers license) and a birth certificate are all that is needed. Oh, and patience as the crossing times are LONG in the summer. If you are crossing from NY into Canada (or vice versa) it is not that bad. The crossing time can be as much as three hours if crossing from Sarnia, Canada into Port Huron. I know we do this a lot in the summer and last year was the worst by far for wait times.

Begining next year if you do not plan on flying out of the US you can get a mini passport ID card that is only $40 and allows you to drive into Canada and Mexico. Check with your local post office for more details.
